How to Retrieve Files from RAW NTFS Partition?
Hard disk drives are stable, randomly accessible, data storage devices and they are used as secondary storage by the operating system. Hard disk drives were introduced by engineers at IBM in 1956 and they were developed to use with general purpose mainframe and mini computers. Before 1980s hard disk drives were rare and very expensive. But now cost and physical size of the hard disk drive is decreasing where as capacity of hard disk drive is increasing. Capacity of hard disk drives has increased from few MB (Mega bytes) to more than TB (Tera bytes) and average access time has decreased from greater than 0.1 second to a few hundredths of a second.
In hard drives, FAT and NTFS file system are used to store the various kinds of data. NTFS (New Technology File System) is an improved version of FAT file system. It includes improved support for metadata, advanced data structures to improve performance, reliability, disk space utilization, file system journaling, and additional extensions such as security via good encryption. NTFS partition is faster than FAT-type partition because it uses a high-performance binary tree to locate files. The NTFS file system partition has several different limits. The limits are based on the number of drive clusters. For example: Under Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0 Setup, the NTFS partition can range from 7MB to 2TB. NTFS is the primary file system used in Microsoft's Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT operating system.
There are instances when your NTFS drive is working perfectly but the file system shows either blank or designated as "RAW" rather than NTFS in the primary partition on the original hard drive and the secondary partition on your original hard drive shows unformatted. Then you must be thinking if there’s any way of converting or changing RAW file system to NTFS without formatting it and losing the data? This is a common problem which most of the users face. Basically, the RAW drive is a hard drive partition which has not been formatted with the file system neither FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 nor NTFS/NTFS5. The RAW drive can be caused by a number of reasons such as malware infection, format failure, unintentionally shutting down the operating system, sudden power outages, etc. When you access your RAW NTFS drive, you will get an error message saying "The disk in drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?". In this situation, if you click "No", the drive cannot be accessed. On the contrary, if you click "Yes", you will lose all of the files stored on your NTFS drive.
Data loss from the NTFS drive may also occur due to several reasons such as accidental deletion of partition, partition errors caused while creating new partition, corrupting partition information while installing dual operating system, accidental formatting of the hard drive, errors encountered during file system conversion, accidental conversion of partition from dynamic to basic, etc. Sometimes while re-partitioning hard drive, partition becomes inaccessible and you may lose data from the hard drive.
If you have lost data from NTFS partition due to any of the above mentioned scenarios, no need to worry regarding how to recover RAW NTFS partition data because you can easily restore deleted, missing or lost files using reliable third party tool such as NTFS recovery software. This tool scans complete hard drive to identify and recover all types of files based on their unique signature. You can use this application to recover hard drive data from SATA, SCSI, PATA, ATA and IDE hard drives. It can recover all deleted folders and files quickly from the hard drive. With the help of this tool one can also perform deleted file recovery from USB drives, FireWire drives, flash memory cards, etc. Employing this utility, you can recover files from corrupt NTFS partition at your own. You may also surprise to see its capability to restore deleted files from Recycle Bin and formatted hard drives. The demo version of this software is also available, so, you can obtain it, in order to estimate NTFS drive recovery before purchasing full version of this tool. With this software, you can also restore deleted NTFS HDD partition files on Windows 7 , Windows XP and Windows Vista computers.
Steps to recover RAW NTFS partition data are mentioned below:
Step1: Download the Demo version of NTFS recovery software and install it on your computer/laptop. Just after installing the software, welcome window will come. It will ask to select one option among three. Select "Recover Partitions / Drives" option.

Step 2: Software shows the list of partitions from which it can recover lost files as shown in Figure 2. Select corrupted NTFS partition here.

Step 3: On clicking "Next", scanning process starts. It will retrieve files from deleted or lost NTFS partition and displays all the restored data as shown in Figure 3
